Synopsis: This blog post explains the free manual methods for NSF File Recovery and convert NSF to PST Without Lotus Notes
Database files that are used by Lotus Notes software are stored in NSF (Notes Storage Facility) format. NSF stores data in a document known as ‘notes’ consisting of business data including calendar, mailsetc. The Lotus Dominos server often hosts NSF files that are downloadable by Lotus Notes clients. It allows working with a functional database even when user is in offline mode. If any changes are made to the database by the client, Domino facilitates syncing the changes in the master database as well. NSF files can be used for data replication process also.
Some
of the reasons for NSF File corruption are:
Virus Attack
Abrupt or sudden System shutdown
Checksum Mismatch: occurs in case of corrupt attachments thereby resulting in inaccessibility of email messages in Lotus Notes
Corrupt File Header: corrupt NSF header stops access to emails, contacts etc which can caused by power failure or any human error
Hardware failure: damage in hard drive can be caused due to bad sectors which will affect all files placed on these bad sectors
Migration: Sometimes, the users migrate from Lotus Notes to other email format, which can sometimes lead to errors.
